Microsoft is poised to revolutionize gaming performance on Windows 11 with the introduction of ‘AI Super Resolution’ (Auto-SR), a groundbreaking feature harnessing the power of artificial intelligence to enhance graphics quality and FPS on select NVIDIA RTX PCs.

Set to debut in the upcoming Windows 11 24H2 Insider build, Auto-SR offers users the ability to enable native AI upscaling capabilities directly within their Windows environment. Hidden within the graphics settings menu, this feature promises to elevate gaming experiences to new heights.

Initially discovered by PhantomOcean3, Auto-SR, or auto super-resolution, can be toggled for specific applications/games or applied system-wide. Unlike traditional AI upscaling technologies exclusive to gaming, Microsoft’s solution extends its benefits to media players, video conference apps, browsers, and even older game titles lacking support for AMD’s FSR or NVIDIA’s DLSS.

While currently limited to PCs equipped with NVIDIA RTX graphics cards (20 series or newer), Auto-SR is also expected to be compatible with Neural Processing Units (NPUs), enabling functionality on laptops powered by the latest Intel Core Ultra processor.

Anticipated for release in the second half of 2024, the Windows 11 24H2 update heralds a significant milestone in Microsoft’s commitment to enhancing user experiences. Expected to be the final major update for Windows 11, it promises a plethora of new features, including innovative on-device AI capabilities optimized for the latest chips from AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm, featuring dedicated AI processing units.
