Apple is expected to bring several new features and fix some bugs with the upcoming iOS 17.1 update. From photo shuffle to changes to the action button, here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming update.
Apple is reportedly working on the first major update to iOS 17, which was released alongside the iPhone 15 last month. The iOS 17.1 update is currently being tested and brings several new features and bug fixes that enhance the overall user experience.
According to the French regulatory group ANFR, the upcoming update will also reduce the radiation level of the iPhone 12 models by not increasing the allowed antenna power when the phone is on a static surface. In a blog post, AFNR had also said that the update would start rolling out on October 24, but that did not happen. From customisations to StandBy Mode to the Photo Shuffle enhancements, here’s everything we know so far about iOS 17.1.
Action button changes
The action button, which is featured with the recently launched iPhone 15 series is getting some functionality changes in the upcoming update. If the device is in your pocket, pressing the action button will no longer trigger the camera, flashlight, focus, magnifier and voice memo.
However, certain features like the mute function and shortcuts can still be triggered even if your iPhone is in a pocket.
Customizable Standby mode
Apple also introduced a new ‘Display’ option in the Standby section of the Settings app. Similar to screen timeout on Android, iPhone users will now be able to choose between 3 options – ‘Automatically’, ‘After 20 seconds’ and ‘Never’. The recently introduced Night mode feature, which basically dims the screen at night and adds a red tint, now has a ‘Motion to Wake’ toggle.
Dynamic Island flashlight notification
The upcoming update also brings a much-needed feature to the non-Pro iPhone 15 models. When iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus users turn on the flashlight, Dynamic Island will show a notification indicating that the flash is on.
Personalized Photo Shuffle
The Photo Shuffle Lock screen feature which allows you to set photos from your gallery as wallpaper is getting some new options. Now, users will be able to select from a specific album of photos as opposed to Apple’s pre-selected options like people, pets or nature.

Fix for 80 per cent charging limit toggle
Apple’s latest iPhone series introduced a new toggle that allowed users to limit charging to 80 per cent. But soon after Apple enthusiasts got their hands on the latest iPhone models, many noticed that the toggle was not working and their iPhone was charging to full. Apple seems to have fixed the issue, meaning users will now be able to prolong their battery health.
